VICENTE DE MELLO  
   
 

Graduated in Advertisement, specialized in art history and brazilian architecture, the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro - PUC / RJ. He trained at the National Institute of Photography (Infoto-FUNARTE) and worked in the Department of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro - MAM / RJ, in the late '80s. From 1991 to 1998, was the photographer responsible for the section of photographic documentation of the collection and exhibitions of the MAM / RJ - Gilberto Chateaubriand Collection.

Photographs art for museums, artists and publishers for twenty years, and has presented his photographic research since 1990 with the creation of shows such as Top Photos (1990-1993), Imaginary Topography (1994-1997), Moiré (1995), American Night (1998), Bestiary (1997), Telluric Reds (2001) first presented at CCBB-RJ, Galactic (2006) and recent Herbaria (2007), SLIDE TRIP (2009), Atmospheric Cinema (2009) and how many have WINGS a Pixel? (2008) his first experience with digital photography.
Participates in several group exhibitions and in 1997 the VI Bienal de La Habana (El y su memoria individual), Cuba in 1997, Brazil 2000 show, an entire ocean to swim, Culturgest, Lisbon, Portugal; In 2001 the show The Wire Trama / The Thread Unraveled: Contemporary Brazilian Art, El Museo del Barrio, New York, USA and 2002 in the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires / Foundation Constantini (MALBA), Buenos Aires, Argentina, shows El Hilo de la Trama : Brazilian Contemporary Art in 2004 in the Artefoto CCBB - Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia, the trajectory of light in Brazilian Art, Itaú Cultural in São Paulo, curated by Paulo Herkenhoff, in 2001, 2004 Still Life, Still Life , Art Gallery of FIESP, São Paulo / MAC - Niterói, curator Katia Canton, in 2006/2007
His solo exhibitions, among others, stand out in the Red Telluric CCBB - Rio de Janeiro in 2001, in 2006/2007 moiré.galáctica.bestiário / Vicente de Mello - Photographies 1995-2007 curated by Jean-Luc Saraiva and Alberto Monterroso, in Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris, France, Future Hi, Rio de Janeiro and in the Pinacoteca of São Paulo in 2010 Pli selon Pli presents at MAM - SP Orchestra and trombones in the MAC - Niterói.
In 2007, he won the Prize of the Paulista Association of Art Critics (APCA) for best photographic exhibition of the year in São Paulo, Pinacoteca do Estado in with the show Moiré.Galáctica.Bestiário.

In 2006 he published a book about his work, Rough Image, edited by Airship. In 2010 Mary published a book with photographic essay on the work of sculptor Maria Martins, edited by Cosac Naify.
