EQUIVALÊNCIAS | MAI-BRITT WOLTHERS
31.03 to 30.04
Penteado Gallery - Campinas
The Penteado Gallery, starting the 2011 agenda, presents the exhibition of Mai Britt, who is member of the body of artists of the gallery. The Exhibition "Equivalências" is her first individual one in Campinas, and brings her recent research, that seeks to give the same effect to shapes, colors and lines, in a game of balance of the compositional elements in both painting and engraving. Varying formats and media, Mai Britt experiences with metal and wood engraving, acrylic and oil paint on paper and canvas, in sizes ranging from medium to large. Born and raised in Denmark, the artist moved to Rio de Janeiro (RJ) in 1986. After the 90's, she transferred her studio to Santos (SP) and expanded her research on the Brazilian forests beyond the Atlantic forest, travelling tthrough the Amazon and Pantanal. Her passion for this subject, the exuberant Brazilian forests, began with the colors and shapes that she intuitively adopted, without losing the nostalgic memory she had already built in her country of origin. After recent experiences with printmaking Mai Britt developed a new graphical gesture, which appears translated in her paintings by the use of broad brush strokes that seek to disrupt the harmonious relations and create pictorial imbalances. Without losing the modulation of shape, her colors expand more and more toward abstraction, in a constant work focused on the experience of the process. The exhibition opens on March 31, 2011 at 19:30 and runs until April 30, 2011, Monday to Friday from 9am to 18:30 and Saturdays from 9am to 13pm. |
